This Week’s Picks

I was a big fan of the beach theme this week, and while I was a bit disappointed so many of the options this week were made with cheese, the ones that weren’t were some of Crumbl’s best work. For those who do like (or are at least okay with) cheese in desserts, I’d be willing to bet the Key Lime Cheesecake, Beach Bum Cookie, and Hawaiian Coconut Cookie were all good options. I only went with three desserts this time, the Molten Lava Cake, Sandy Beach Banana Pudding Cup, and Pineapple Whip Cookie. They were all good enough that once again, I went back a second time this week.

Molten Lava Cake

I had seen rumors of this dessert being teased for months, and as a big fan of chocolate lava cakes in general, I couldn’t wait for it to finally actually come around. I was very excited to finally see it make it debut on the menu this week, and it lived up to my (very high) expectations for it. Rather than having the molten chocolate in the center like a traditional lava cake, Crumbl serves its rich chocolate ganache over the top. It creates a slightly different experience, but one that works well. The first time they poured the ganache on top of the cake, but the second time I went they served it in a separate cup. The vanilla mousse on top is a good addition as well, making an already excellent dessert slightly better. The hardest thing about this cake is not eating too much at one time; with difficulty, I managed to make it last 5 days. The lava cake overall joins my top 10, maybe even top 5 favorite Crumbl desserts of all time.

Sandy Beach Banana Pudding Cup

This was another new addition to Crumbl’s menu, and it was priced up as well; at $8.99, it was almost as much as the Strawberry Cups from the last few weeks. However, in my opinion, this one was a much better value. I had had banana pudding from Crumbl before, and while it is always good, I don’t frequently go back to it when I see it make its way back onto their menu. However, with the additional vanilla wafers and pudding added, along with a layering and included mini plastic shovel that can serve as a spoon while also hinting at the idea of a sand castle, I decided it would be worth trying. The pudding was very good, and the cup was bigger than the banana pudding cups normally are. This dessert should definitely be kept in the fridge, right up until the moment you’re ready to eat it. The only issue I had with it was that the bananas in it didn’t stay very fresh for long, but to be fair bananas in general never stay fresh for long in any conditions once they’re ripe. This one lasted me a day longer than the lava cake, but I still picked up an extra one on my second trip of the week.

Overall Rating: 8.5/10

Pineapple Whip Cookie

Other than the Chocolate Chip Cookie Thins and the Classic Flavors, this was the only dessert this week that had made appearances on past Crumbl lineups. I can’t remember if I had it more than once, but I do remember really liking the pineapple frosting and its pairing with the cookie’s softness, and it was exactly what I remembered. During my second trip to Crumbl of the week, they were out of the cookie in the normal large size (I had expected at least one of my choices to be sold out during the visit, as it was only a little over an hour before their closing time on the last day they were open for the week), but offered me three minis instead, which I was happy to accept considering they usually offer me only two minis as a replacement.

Overall Rating: 8.5/10

Would I Buy It Again?

Definitely

All of them!

  • Molten Lava Cake
  • Sandy Beach Banana Pudding Cup
  • Pineapple Whip Cookie

Dessert of the Week

Everything I had this week was excellent by Crumbl’s standards, but the choice for dessert of the week has to be the Molten Lava Cake, which I had been anticipating for a long time now; I think I first heard about it in April as a test item, and had been hoping to see it on the menu ever since. I set my expectations for it extremely high and it still met them; I definitely hope to see it make another appearance in the future.

Overall Weekly Rating

Overall Rating: 8/10

Despite the fact that I only went with a few options (in fact, the fewest since Crumbl switched back to having 6 rotating flavors), the ones that I did pick out were good enough for me to again make a second trip at the end of the week.

Final Thoughts

A beach theme in mid-July is always a logical choice, and this one worked out well. While this week’s menu wasn’t the most accessible for my own tastes because of the heavy emphasis on cream cheese and cheesecake, the desserts I did choose more than made up for it. The Molten Lava Cake instantly became one of my favorite Crumbl desserts, while the Sandy Beach Banana Pudding Cup and Pineapple Whip Cookie were both very worthwhile choices as well. Even though I only picked three desserts this week, they were strong enough to convince me to make another trip before the menu changed.

It looks like next week’s menu will focus specifically on cookie thins, with some thin flavors that Crumbl has never made before; my take for next week’s Crumbl lineup is coming soon.
