This Week’s Picks

This week had some pretty good options for its “Diner Theme,” with most being flavors that were either entirely new or that I had never tried before. I had the Brownie Sundae when it was previewed last week at the Crumbl I stopped by then, but it was a high enough ranking dessert that I got it once again this week, alongside the Rainbow Shake Cookie, Mississippi Mud Pie Cookie, and Peanut Butter Bar Cookie.

Brownie Sundae

Overall Rating: 9/10

Rainbow Shake Cookie

This cookie implements a lot of M&Ms into a soft sugar cookie, and seems meant to mimic complex and colorful shakes that have been popularized at some diners in recent years (for example, Diner 24 NYC or Black Tap Craft Burgers & Beer). The combination with the buttercream frosting on top does almost feel like a milkshake in solid cookie form, and was ultimately my favorite new dessert of the week.

Overall Rating: 9/10

Mississippi Mud Pie Cookie

This cookie was similar in form to the skillet-style cookies I’ve discussed in the past, with a soft chocolate base and a lot of mousse and whipped cream on top. One nice thing about this cookie is the toppings have a balanced profile; i.e. not too rich or too light. This one is recommended to serve chilled, and while I personally chose not to, I would suggest refrigerating it if you don’t want it to get messy (I choose to just eat it with a fork).

Overall Rating: 8.5/10

Peanut Butter Bar Cookie

I was looking forward to the combination of peanut butter and oatmeal in this cookie, and obviously the addition of the chocolate frosting. It’s a good cookie, but it doesn’t necessarily exceed expectations; it really tastes about how you would expect. The ingredients do pair pretty well together; I feel I’ve never gone wrong with combining peanut butter and chocolate, and the oatmeal gave another flavor profile to the mix.

Overall Rating: 7.5/10

Dessert of the Week

While I might normally expect the Brownie Sundae to win dessert of the week, this time I have to hand it to the Rainbow Shake Cookie. It’s rare that when Crumbl includes a brownie on its lineup, something else is my favorite of the week, but this cookie felt really original and bold while still maintaining flavors that are clear to work well together.

Overall Weekly Rating

Overall Rating: 8/10

I felt this was a decent week by Crumbl standards, but I wasn’t expecting it to live up to the previous week’s Soda Theme.

Final Thoughts

I overall enjoyed most of what Crumbl had to offer this week, only opting to skip the two desserts with cream cheese frosting (although I’m also not a fan of carrot cake even if it were to have a different type of frosting). It’s also worthy to note that the cookie thins once again did not make an appearance, hinting that it’s possible we may not see them again anytime soon if ever. Additionally, it also seems Crumbl plans to stick with just the chocolate chip and sugar cookie in terms of permanent flavors.

Next week’s theme seems to center on European inspired desserts and cookies, and while many of those do feature cheese, there are still many I look forward to trying.
