This Week’s Picks
This week was Crumbl’s birthday, and coincidentally, was actually also the week of my birthday. However, for the first time in a while, I was pretty disappointed with the lineup. Most of it was cookies and desserts I wasn’t interested in trying, with two desserts featuring cream cheese frosting and two more with pistachio and almond. I ended up getting the Chocolate Chip Cookie Cake Cookie and Cake Batter Blondie Cookie for my initial trip on Monday. However, because the Crumbl app has a reward of a free single dessert on the user’s birthday, I decided to step a bit outside my comfort zone and try the Pink Sugar Cake, since it was free and made up of ingredients I knew I would like outside the almond.
Chocolate Chip Cookie Cake Cookie
This was the only dessert I was especially excited about this week. While it is advertised as a skillet cookie, it is a bit less soft than Crumbl’s usual skillet cookies. However, the cookie, which is based on the idea of cookie cakes, was still very good, with the fudge frosting serving as a particularly complementary addition to the chocolate chip cookie itself. I still have yet to try Crumbl’s new recipe chocolate chip cookies and haven’t had one of their past ones in ages, but this one definitely serves as a big improvement if I remember correctly.

Cake Batter Blondie Cookie
This is a dessert I remember having from Crumbl multiple times in the past. It feels like a safe choice, as cake batter with sprinkles and white chips always makes for an appealing combo, but there’s not so much that’s particularly exciting about it. It isn’t any softer or more flavorful than an average Crumbl dessert, and feels like one of the more normal cookies from the company. In other words, it doesn’t really stand out, but makes for an acceptable option when the others interest me even less.

Birthday Bonus: Pink Sugar Cake
I’ve had Crumbl desserts made in this style before with normal buttercream rather than almond (including on my birthday last year), and have always enjoyed them, so during a week with so few options I was interested in, I decided to take a risk with this one. The cake itself was as good as I recall, tasting like a typical yellow birthday cake, but the frosting I had mixed feelings about. It didn’t taste bad, but there were very clear notes of marzipan-like flavor in the frosting, which I wasn’t a fan of.

Dessert of the Week
Dessert of the week very easily goes to the Chocolate Chip Cookie Cake Cookie this time around, which was the only one I went back for later in the week.

Overall Rating: 5/10
Considering there were only two choices this week I was interested in and one of them I have had before and really served as more of a safe choice than a cookie I was excited about eating, this was one of my least favorite weeks from Crumbl in a while.
Final Thoughts
This lineup is likely to appeal more to people into nuts like pistachio and almond in their desserts as well as cream cheese frosting. The Dubai-Style Chocolate Brownie was a repeat from last week, and is understandably popular, but I would have liked to see something different or new. The Birthday Cake Cookie (with Oreo) is also a dessert I believe was listed on the menu in a somewhat recent week, and is also a frequent item on their lineup. Considering it is always made with cream cheese frosting, I feel it would be a good idea for them to try it with buttercream or an Oreo filling-like cream on top instead.
Next week features a “country” theme that looks quite a bit more promising than this week.
